OSXcellence – ePic Review
Posted by: | Comments
As a lover of old-skool things, my first choice format for showing-off my pictures is out of a history book – it’s called paper. What digital images have as an advantage, however, is the ability to be shown and shared in all manner of ways.
Often, the simple and humble slideshow is overlooked in these days of Instagram and Flickr, which is criminal given how great they are for sharing a group of pictures. One of a growing field of apps that aids the building of slideshows is ePic (costing $4.99/£2.99 for a limited time, on the App Store).
ePic is clearly aimed at the ‘click-and-go’ user, who just wants to plug in their pictures, and let the software make them look good. As a result, the slideshow display styles are limited to a standard “1 image at a time” slideshow, and ePic’s own 3D conveyer belt, where images “fall” onto the belt before slowly making their way off screen. The main attraction is, of course, the latter.

The New Apple TV – For $99 It’s Worth a Second Look
Posted by: | CommentsSept 2, 2010 – I’m a big fan of the Apple TV. I’ve had the first generation model for years now and love it. I originally bought it to watch video podcasts on my big screen TV in the comfort of my family room. When producers starting delivering their content in HD the experience got even better. Since then I’ve used it to watch movies, listen to music and even surf the videos on YouTube. The $200 plus investment I made several years ago was well worth it.

Sept 1, 2010 – PRESS SUMMARY - Apple® announced the new iPod touch®, packed with incredible new features including Apple’s stunning Retina™ display, FaceTime® video calling, HD video recording, Apple’s A4 chip, 3-axis gyro, iOS 4.1 and Game Center—all combined in the thinnest and lightest iPod touch ever. The new iPod touch features up to 40 hours of music playback and seven hours of video playback on a single battery charge.*
“We’ve put our most advanced technology inside the new iPod touch,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Whether you’re listening to music, playing games, making FaceTime video calls, browsing the web, capturing HD video or watching TV shows and movies, the new iPod touch with its Retina display, A4 chip and 3-axis gyro is more fun than ever.”
Apple’s stunning Retina display makes everything on iPod touch look even more incredible, whether playing games, watching video, browsing the web or flicking through photos. The Retina display has 960 x 640 pixels—four times as many pixels than before. The resulting 326 pixels per inch is so dense that the human eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels when iPod touch is held at a normal distance, making text, images and video look sharper, smoother and more realistic.
With the new front-facing camera and mic, iPod touch users can make FaceTime video calls over Wi-Fi. With just one tap of the new FaceTime app, iPod touch users can call other new iPod touch or iPhone® 4 users** to easily see what their friends are up to, share important moments like the first day of school and even show others what they are seeing by easily switching to the rear-facing camera.
