March 20, 2010 – Canon Japan announced that they are struggling to meet the demands for the new EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens that was announced at the beginning of the year. The previous model has proved to be a staple for many professional photographers and based on the demand, the updated version should prove to be the same. Although they announced a shortage, you can still find the lens online for around $2499.

The Best Just Got Better – Canon’s Second Generation EF 70-200mm f/2.8L Lens
Posted by: | Comments
Jan 9, 2010 – Canon announced their second generation EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens. This focal range is arguably the most popular of Canon’s telephoto lens and is a staple for many professional photographers. It provides the focal length, maximum aperture and zoom power for capturing everything from fast-action sports to studio portraits. The new EF 70-200 has been enhanced to provide better durability and strength without a significant increase in weight and will produce better image quality with improved contrast and resolution. Auto focus has been improved with a new focusing algorithm and the minimum focusing distance has been reduced to 3.9 feet through the entire zoom range. The new lens is scheduled to be at US dealers in April. The price is still to be determined but the previous model is selling for $1,699.95 at B&H so I would expect this one to be close to that.

Three New Lenses From Canon, One Featuring Hybrid Image Stabilization
Posted by: | Comments![]()
Sep 13, 2009 - Canon introduced three new lenses last week. The EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens is a great multipurpose lens for capturing sharp close-up images of small objects as well as beautiful portrait-length telephoto shots. This lens incorporates Canon’s new Hybrid IS which compensates for both angular camera shake and shift camera shake, problems that become more apparent as magnification increases. Shift camera shake is rarely noticeable when shooting outside the macro realm, such as landscape photography. But when shooting extreme close-ups, even the slightest amount of angular or shift camera shake can adversely affect image quality. The Hybrid IS lens includes an acceleration sensor in addition to the conventional angular velocity sensor, and together work to compensate for the two types of shift giving a much sharper image. This lens will be available at the end of September for an estimated price of $1,049.
The second Canon lens introduced is the EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM. This is an ideal multipurpose wide-angle zoom lens for the photographer shooting a wedding or exotic vacation. The zoom range is equivalent to 24-136mm on a full-frame camera and when coupled with the new 7D, provides videographers with a phenomenal focal range for wide-angle scenic footage and zoomed in telephoto shots. Canon has scheduled this lens to be available in late October for an estimated price of $799.99.
The third lens is the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS. This is the perfect Image Stabilized lens for the advanced shooter looking for a wide-angle zoom lens with telephoto capabilities. On a full-frame camera this lens is equivalent to 29-216mm. Look for this lens at the end of September for an estimated price of $499.99.
