Images From Space Captured with the Nikon D3S
Posted by: | Comments
July 8, 2010 – PRESS RELEASE - The images below were captured with equipment, including Nikon D3S digital-SLR cameras, NIKKOR lenses, Speedlights and other accessories, kept aboard the ISS. To date, NASA has captured more than 700,000 images with Nikon equipment carried into space. Among these many images, those rare and precious photos that can only be captured from space, as well as those captured under the extremely low-light conditions of space that exhibit the superior image quality of D3S noise suppression features are introduced.
Nikon has spent many years contributing to NASA’s study of space through the development and manufacture of advanced and extremely durable cameras and NIKKOR lenses. Production of NIKKOR lenses, which make the most of Nikon’s optical technologies, reached fifty million units last September. Nikon’s history with NASA began with the Nikon Photomic FTN?, a modified Nikon F camera that was used aboard the Apollo 15 in 1971. Nikon’s relationship with NASA continued even with the transition to digital when NASA placed orders for Nikon D2XS digital-SLR cameras in 2008. These cameras are still being used in space today. In 2009, NASA ordered eleven D3S cameras and seven AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lenses for use in recording activities aboard the Space Shuttle and International Space Station. The D3S cameras were the same products available to consumers with no special modifications, and they were delivered to the ISS via the Space Shuttle Discovery launched on April 5, 2010. Read More→
Video – APPLE OF MY EYE – Shot and Edited on the New iPhone 4
Posted by: | CommentsThis is a really good short that’s been making its rounds on the internet. The movie is called “APPLE OF MY EYE” and was created by Michael Koerbel and Anna Elizabeth James. It shows a little girl and her grandfather looking through a store window at a model train. As the grandfather watches the little girl’s excitement he flashes back to when he was young playing with his own trains.
The video was completely shot and edited on the new Apple iPhone 4. They used several rigs to hold the iphone during the shooting process and then edited with the new iMovie iPhone App. The video also includes a behind-the-scenes look at its creation. Give it a look, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

HP Acquires Palm – Look Out Apple There’s a New Mobile Player in Town
Posted by: | Comments
July 6, 2010 – HP announced that they completed the acquisition of Palm, creators of the award-winning webOS mobile platform and the Pre and Pixi smartphone product line. This merger will allow HP to participate more aggressively in the highly profitable $100 billion smartphone and connected mobile device markets.
Palm’s webOS is said by many to be a great mobile operating system. One of the biggest problems Palm had in the mobile market was the financial backing. They’ve been struggling for many years and their Pre and Pixi line of smartphones was their last ditch effort for survival. Unfortunately because of the existing and growing market of BlackBerry and iPhones users, it was nearly impossible for them to break in and claim their market share. Read More→

iPhone Tethering – Another Epic Failure From AT&T
Posted by: | Comments
June 29, 2010 – On Monday June 7, 2010, Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs gave the Keynote address at the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) and as expected the new iPhone 4 was introduced. The sexy new hardware coupled with the updated iOS4 operating system made this the HOT gadget to have.
While there are many great new features in the hardware and software update, one that got many excited was Tethering (the ability to use your iPhone as a modem to connect your laptop, iPad or other device to the internet using AT&T’s 3G and EDGE networks). After the announcement I started doing a little research about the tethering feature and contacted AT&T for more details. At that time details were sketchy at best but the general gist was, you would need to be running the new operating system (iOS4) on either the new iPhone 4 or iPhone 3Gs and there would be an additional cost of $20 per month.
