Document Model Releases on iPhone using ID Release

Model releases. Some photographers swear by them; others swear at them. The purpose of this article is NOT to tell you when you do or do not need a model release. It’s purpose is simply to tell you about an iPhone app that will assure that you always have that model release at hand when you need it.

The app is called ID Release, and is available for free in the App Store. The concept is quite simple. You start out by setting up an event then proceed by walking the model through the permission process even to the point of her signing with her finger on the screen. In between you have the opportunity to explain the details of the release, collect model data and GPS coordinates, and even photograph a copy of the model’s identification. The release will be saved for you and emailed to both the model and your own email address.

ID Release is provided by the WIN-Initiative and, according to the application’s web site, is endorsed by Getty Images and all the other major stock agencies. The release itself is quite thorough. So if you use model releases, this is worth checking out.

Hope you enjoy! All the best…Mike
