I found a link to this video on Twitter today and just thought I would share it. This is a fun behind-the-scenes look at what goes in to a big budget commercial photo shoot. Take notice of the techniques they uses to get just the right look for the pizza cheese pull.

A while back Jay was asked by Fashion Stylist, Tommy Lloyd-Baker, to shoot some promotional images for his charity catwalk show, “Make Do & Mend”. The show helps to raise money for The Bob Champion Cancer Trust and Whipps Cross Hospital, two causes Jay is happy to support.

The event showcased the collections of 8 British designers and was held at T47 London Bridge on
June 10, 2010.

Jay McLaughlin, an award winning photographer located in the UK, scheduled his second fashion test shoot planned for 2010. The shoot involved two models but it didn’t go as smoothly as he had hoped. A week before the shoot one of the models contacted Jay to say she had broken up with her boyfriend and couldn’t make the shoot because she’d been crying too much! Jay managed to find a replacement but she cancelled the day before the shoot! Not feeling optimistic about finding a replacement at such late notice, he managed to find Claire Randle and Nicola Paul for the shoot.

Jay was excited about the shoot because Hasselblad UK lent him an H3DII-31 camera for the day to try out. After a very long but fun day, Jay got some really great images with the two replacement models and Leanne Bisson’s awesome make-up!

Simon Carter is a professional outdoors photographer recognised internationally for his distinctive rock climbing photography. Named by Men’s Journal Magazine (USA) as one of the World’s Best Adventure Photographers, Simon has worked professionally for 16 years and in the process has travelled widely and built up one of the best and largest collections of unique climbing imagery in the world.

Nikon Professional Services wanted to produce videos highlighting the work of some Australian photographers. They got in touch with Simon to see if he wanted to work with them on their first video which would be shot entirely on the new Nikon D3s camera. Of course he said yes and below is the 2 minute feature they came up with called “The Rock Climber”.

The second video is a longer behind-the-scenes look at Simon’s set up and what went in to capturing some of the footage and stills. He also talks a bit about climbing photography and some of the techniques used. Read More→

Scott Holstein is a freelance photographer based in Tallahassee, Florida. He specializes in environmental portraiture and other on location photography.

This video is a behind the scenes look at how Scott made the image “Quagmire.” He set up a scene with a beautiful woman and her unlikely companion in a Florida swamp at dusk. For lighting he used two speedlights which were hidden in the lanterns.

Jay’s video “Katy Cee Photoshoot” is a behind-the-scenes look at a fashion test shoot he recently did. The model’s name is Katy Cee, the make up artist is Leanne Bisson and clothing was supplied by Bublee Boutique. Jay’s studio setup included a Canon EOS 1D Mark III, Studio Heads and Pocket Wizards.
