A couple of weeks ago I was taking an afternoon off to do a bit of shopping in Sutton High Street (although that isn’t important). As I came out of the train station I was greeted by a cheerful fello who had a microphone and a mobile speaker. He was ‘spreading the good word’ but that isn’t the important part either.
What was important was the fact that what he was saying was being heard….. and this got me thinking…..
Is what you offer as a photographer being heard? Do you ask people to hire you as much as you think you should?
Perhaps roaming the streets with a megaphone isn’t the most effective marketing campaign for a photographer, but it is good analogy.
Take a look at all the different aspects of your business and ask yourself a few questions.
Do you have enough calls to action on your website?
How easy is it for someone to find your latest offers or promotions?
How available do you make yourself? This can be either on the end of a phone or in person. If I wanted to meet you on a Sunday night or call you in the middle of the day is that possible?
If I wanted to book you right now and pay a deposit is that easy to do?
Do you ask current clients to refer you and if so how often?
How big is your signage? Could it be bigger? Subtly is not always a good thing!
SEO
Search Engine Optimisation is always a great way to shout at the top of your voice ‘hire me!’ but how are you doing in terms of your important keywords?
For that matter are your keywords getting you the right sort of traffic? You might be top on London photographer for example but if you only shoot weddings then you’ve gone to a lot of effort to attract traffic that isn’t neccerily looking for the services you offer.
Lots of things to think about there and plenty of other questions that could also be asked. The most important for this campaign is
“Are you shouting loud enough?”
