In the beginning, I connected a Drobo to a Mac via FireWire 800, turned on file sharing and mounted the Drobo on my desktop over the Gigabit network. I was able to achieve fast data transfer speeds and could work directly off the Drobo. I considered using the DroboShare to simplify the setup and connect it directly to my network without the computer interface, but it only had a USB 2.0 connection which would slow down the transfer rates to 400mps.
