March 27, 2010 – The recent explosion of DSLR cameras with video capability has turned many traditional videographers and photographers toward cameras like the Canon 1D Mark IV, 5D Mark II and the 7D for their stunning HD footage at very affordable prices. Apple’s Final Cut Studio has become the dominant choice for editing that HD video but the process involved in transcoding the H.264 files to Apple ProRes is very time consuming and processor-heavy.
Back on February 5th Canon announced the launch of their free plugin, EOS Movie Plugin-E1. Once the plugin is installed, it works in tandem with Final Cut Pro making editing video files from EOS cameras a much smoother and highly automated process. This week the plugin became available and can be download from Canon’s website. You can click on this link, or go to the 1D Mark IV, 5D Mark II or 7D product page, select the “Drivers & Downloads” tab, then select Mac OS X as your operating system. The page will refresh with a link to download the plugin.

This new plug-in is essential for editing Canon HDSLR footage. It saves you from copying the footage off your cards onto your hard drive, converting to an editable format and then finally importing into Final Cut.
With one click it meshes all 3 steps into one and leaves you more time for what’s important. Editing!
