So…you drop by the supermarket on the way home from work to pick up some orange juice. While checking out the no pulp, extra pulp, and low pulp options you swear that you see Lady Gaga browsing the store’s selection of yogurt. It’s not like you are the paparazzi or anything, but you are a photographer and it’s in your DNA to grab that shot. Think how cool it will be to be flipping through your iPhone pics with your friends and say, “Oh yeah, that’s the one of Gaga when we were shopping at the Foodland.”
But do you go for a still picture or a movie? A movie would be cool, but you really want to Twitter it too. So a still shot? But what if she flips you off for taking her pic? You wouldn’t want to miss that! Decisions, decisions…
Thanks to Mirage Labs you can have your movie and still shot too! VideoPix is an iPhone and iPad app that allows you to grab a frame (or two or three…) from your movie, edit it, and save it as you would any photo. It also allows you to slow or speed your video from 1 to 60 frames per second. That means you can pull off some really cool effects.
It’s super easy to use. You first select your video from your computer or camera roll. At this point you can play the video and adjust the number of frames from 1 to 60. You click a button to go into an editing screen where you can move forward or backward by frame and grab a still image and do some simple editing including cropping and converting to black and white or sepia.
VideoPix is a bargain at 99 cents, easy to use, and serves a useful purpose. Whether you grab a frame from a video or analyze your tennis backhand in slow motion, you will find that VideoPix is a useful tool. But don’t take my word for it. Check it out for yourself.
All the best…Mike
