Dec 27, 2009 – The convergence of still images and video in one camera body is here to stay and as a photographer you can either choose to ignore it or embrace it and add it to your arsenal of tools. I love still photography just as much as video so I’m always on the lookout for new and interesting products that will help expand my offerings.
I stumbled across a website with some interesting gear for video shooters. CobraCraneUSA.com has a line of camera stabilizers, cranes and a bunch of other gear at affordable prices. Their Steady Tracker UltraLite is a simple counter balance device designed to eliminate shake, roll and yaw caused from handheld shooting. It’s compatible with the Canon 5D Mark II and other similar sized DSLRs and if you’ve ever tried shooting those handheld, you know how difficult it is to get steady video standing still let alone moving. Well this rig will help you get the shot you’re looking for. Demo videos on their site show the Steady Tracker used in a variety of situations including running, climbing stairs, circling side to side and there’s even a kid using one while riding his skateboard (which I don’t recommend). At a price of $185 it might be worth taking a look.
