Canon Announces the 5D Mark IV DSLR Camera

Canon-5DMK4-300x300The highly anticipated Canon EOS 5D Mark IV has officially been announced. There were a lot of rumored specs circulating for weeks leading up to the announcement, but the wait is over.

While the 5D series is not Canon’s top of the line DSLR body, it is the most popular among professional wedding, portrait, and nature/wildlife photographers. With the introduction of full HD 1080p video recording in the 5D Mark II model, it made Canon’s pro-sumer DSLR hugely popular among budding and professional film makers alike. This camera was the first notable DSLR body to include video recording and was the pioneer in fusion photography.

The 5D Mark IV takes video to the next level with 4K 30p and 24p recording capabilities. It will also pull 4K 8.8 MP still images from a video segment, a technique many fusion photographers have adopted to capture the perfect moment. To make video shooting even easier, the camera features Canon’s propriety Dual Pixel CMOS AF, even when shooting 4K to help ensure sharp focus and subject tracking.

The 30.4 MP Full Frame CMOS sensor offers stunning image quality in nearly any light, with ISO range 100-32,000; expandable up to 50-102,400. The DIGIC 6+ Image Processor delivers up to 7 fps continuous shooting.

The 61 AF points with 41 cross-points is a welcomed addition to the 5D line, and the 150,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor helps provide precise exposure metering, helps detect flickering lights and allows for enhanced scene recognition and face detection capabilities.

For the first time in the 5D series, the Mark IV features built-in Wi-Fi and Near-Field Communication (NFC) providing an easy way to transfer images and MP4 movies to compatible mobile devices, as well remote shooting when using the Canon Camera Connect App. The EOS 5D Mark IV also includes a built-in GPS receiver with compass for precise geo-tagged information of latitude, longitude, and elevation. These features have been available in other DSLR models for some time, but the only way to have them in a 5D model was through the use of an external device.

Pricing and Availability
The Canon EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR is scheduled to be available in early September 2016 for a retail price of $3,499.00 for the body only.

It will also be sold as part of body-and-lens kits with the EF24-70mm f/4L lens for $4,399.00 and the EF24-105mm f/4L IS II USM lens for $4,599.00, scheduled to be available late October.

PENTAX Introduces New 25mm Lens for 645D Medium-Format DSLR

PENTAX LogoMarch 23, 2012 – PRESS SUMMARY – PENTAX RICOH IMAGING AMERICAS CORPORATION announced the introduction of its new DA645 25mm f/4 lens, designed and optimized for exclusive use with its popular 645D medium format digital SLR camera. By combining its ultra-wide perspective with exclusive PENTAX Super Multi-Coating (smc), Aspherical Elements (AL), Supersonic Direct-drive Motor (SDM), and all-weather (AW) construction, PENTAX has created a lens that will render super-sharp images with performance levels photographers have come to expect from original PENTAX lenses.

When mounted on the PENTAX 645D medium-format digital SLR camera body, the DA645 25mm f/4 AL [IF] SDM AW lens provides a focal length of approximately 19.5mm in the 35mm format, the widest perspective available with the 645D. Photographers now have greater creative flexibility when shooing landscapes or when photographing in confined areas with minimal room to move.

As with any quality optics, precision engineering and glass elements are critical ingredients. The DA645 25mm f/4 lens incorporates two high-performance aspherical optical elements, which provide exceptional image-resolving power with outstanding brightness levels even at the edges, while keeping various aberrations to a minimum. In addition, the lens is treated with PENTAX Aero Bright Coating to ensure an outstanding anti-reflection performance over a broader wavelength range to deliver images that are more brilliant and higher quality than those produced by previous models. Additional lens coatings and anti-reflective materials are applied to create a lens that is totally optimized for the 645D camera. Read More→

RODE VideoMic HD – The World's First Digital Recorder Video Microphone

January 28, 2012 – PRESS SUMMARY – RODE Microphones announced the VideoMic HD, a high-fidelity, precision RF bias shotgun microphone with integrated digital recording, designed for use with DSLR and large-sensor video cameras.

The VideoMic HD’s audio DNA is directly inherited from RØDE’s flagship NTG3 professional shotgun microphone. Incorporating the same capsule and sharing much of the electronic design of the NTG3, the VideoMic HD is a true condenser super-cardioid shotgun microphone with RF bias technology. This makes it virtually immune to RF interference and condensation that can cause other condenser microphones to fail.

Continuing its history of innovation and ‘industry-firsts’ RØDE has incorporated a high quality digital recorder into the body of the VideoMic HD. This completely removes the requirement for a separate audio recorder, while still also providing throughput of the audio signal to the camera for a superior reference audio track. Read More→
