May 2, 2010 – Mike Wong from onOne Software posted on his blog last week answering questions about DSLR Camera Remote 1.3 running on the iPad. The two most common questions were, Will DSLR Camera Remote run on the iPad? and Will users be able to control their camera using the DSLR Camera Remote app from the iPad without a computer in between?
Mike answered, the app will run fine on the iPad but it was designed for the smaller screen size, so when you launch the app it only appears half size. By simply clicking the 2X button in the lower right, the app will fill the screen and overall the image quality doesn’t look bad. I’m sure in a future version they will rework the app to take advantage of the iPad’s larger screen real estate.
As for question two, you still need a computer running the DSLR Camera Remote Server application with the camera tethered to it. Currently there is no easy work around to eliminate the computer because of the design of the iPhone operating system running on the iPad, and the SDKs from Canon and Nikon that make it possible to interface the camera with the computer. onOne would love to eliminate the computer from the equation, but for now and for the foreseeable future it will be required. Here’s a link to Mike Wong’s blog for more details.
