Friday Business Challenge – Week 2: How Remarkable is Your Photography Business?

Welcome to week two of the Friday Business Challenge bought to you by Current Photographer and Today is Different. Not sure what The Challenge is about? Click here to find out: Welcome to the Friday Business Challenge.

So how did you go with last week’s challenge? Did you do it? Don’t worry if you haven’t yet, just go back and do it any time before the challenge ends.

We want to give a big shout out to Sophie from KisschaseyPhotography.com.au. She took last weeks challenge and wrote a great comment on the post sharing her thoughts. Be sure to stop by her website and blog to see what she’s up to and give her a “Like” on Facebook.

So on to week number two.

How Remarkable is Your Photography Business?

The question is why should someone decide to hire you, over all the other photographers in the area? What is it that’s so special and unique about you that they should choose you over all the other choices available to them, including doing nothing at all?

The Challenge & the Reward

We want to see you succeed in your photography business. Participating in the 7 weeks of challenges will help you focus on taking action towards making your business the best it can be.

Sharing your experiences with others is also a great benefit to the community, so we want to hear from you. Tell us how you did with the weeks challenge in the comments below. In return we want to give you a little promotion (and who doesn’t want that?) Be sure to include links to your website, blog, Twitter profile, Facebook Page, LinkedIn and any other profile you’d like to share with the community.

We’ll select the best, most thought out comments to be featured in next weeks challenge along with a post on the Today Is Different blog. Just think of all those wonderful links you’ll get to help your SEO!

As an additional incentive we are offering you a chance to get one of your favorite photographs featured at the top of CurrentPhotographer.com. We’ll include your image, your name or company name along with your website url. When the graphic is clicked the viewer will be taken directly to your website. Nice way to get a little extra attention huh?

So how do you get your image featured you ask? It’s simple, just click the “Tweet & Get It” button below. You’ll automatically tweet the special phrase and get immediate access to a free e-book that Trevor has put together titled “How to Pimp Out Your Twitter Profile in 4 Easy Steps”.

We’ll pick 4 random Twitter followers who tweet the special phrase and send them a Direct Message with details on how to submit their photo and information.

At the end of the 7 weeks we’ll have a special gift for all those who participated and commented. Trevor and I have put together a couple of great e-books that we’d like to give to you for FREE just to say thanks.

So keep participating in the challenges, keep the comments coming and share your accomplishments with your friends on Twitter and Facebook to let them know “you’re in it to win it!”

  1. Well at last you have prompted me to do a survey with my past clients.. I have been meaning to do this for months but never got around to doing it.. Plus i was nervous of the answers but after reading your challenge if i’m serious about this business i need to find out what my clients really think, if they were happy or not and if and where i need to improve..  Scary as it is i need to find out……..  I’m looking forward to this challenge of yours every week and i’ve already made my survey and have uploaded it to my facebook business page for my clients to see and have mailed it out as well..  EEkkk..  but in a good way.. Thanks heaps.. Tanya from http://www.tindaleimages.com

    • EEkkk in a good way is a good thing Tanya 🙂 Some of the best things in life are a little scary to start with. I’m sure you’ll get lots of great feedback from your clients that will just help you to add teh “Remarkable”!

  2. Thank you for your interesting and insightful presentation.

When I first started in my photography business, I tried to be all things to all people – largely because that’s what I saw all the other photographers doing. Weddings, portraits, families, events, etc.

I didn’t become successful until I narrowed my focus to one small, narrow niche – something I love doing above all other things: Making insightful black and white portraits of childhood.

By focusing like a laser beam on one thing, I was finally able to make my work remarkable. And boy, do my clients remark about it. Not only do they become my friends, they become mad raving fans who tell all their friends and neighbors with kids that they need to sit down and chat with me.

I didn’t understand that I needed to narrow my focus until, a few years back, someone gave me the same advice you give in this presentation: Ask your clients what makes you remarkable to them. All my best clients said pretty much the same thing: “Your portraits of our kids are the best we’ve ever seen. Your work is expensive, and it’s worth every penny! When we want something special, we’re coming straight to you!”

Your presentation has made me remember that I need to include more easier feedback opportunities as part of my SOP.

Thank you again for your insight and encouragement.

  3. This is great! Thank you for sharing information on making our photography businesses better. Some people think that running a photography business is easy, “Oh, just grab your camera and take a picture.” But the truth is that just because you can take a great picture, doesn’t mean you can run a successful photo business. Articles like this really are a big help.
