AT&T LogoFeb 3, 2011 – PRESS SUMMARY – AT&T announced select smartphone customers will soon be able to connect multiple devices from their smartphone – via Wi-Fi – thanks to the new AT&T Mobile Hotspot application. Letter From Apple about iPhone 4 Reception Problems

Apple LogoJuly 2, 2010 – Apple released a letter to iPhone 4 users about the reported wireless reception problems some people were experiencing. Apple stated “gripping almost any mobile phone in certain ways will reduce its reception by 1 or more bars. This is true of iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, as well as many Droid, Nokia and RIM phones.” “But some users have reported that iPhone 4 can drop 4 or 5 bars when tightly held in a way which covers the black strip in the lower left corner of the metal band.” Because of this large drop some have accused the iPhone 4 of having a faulty antenna design. iPhone Tethering – Another Epic Failure From AT&T

AT&T LogoJune 29, 2010 – On Monday June 7, 2010, Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs gave the Keynote address at the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) and as expected the new iPhone 4 was introduced. The sexy new hardware coupled with the updated iOS4 operating system made this the HOT gadget to have.

While there are many great new features in the hardware and software update, one that got many excited was Tethering (the ability to use your iPhone as a modem to connect your laptop, iPad or other device to the internet using AT&T’s 3G and EDGE networks). After the announcement I started doing a little research about the tethering feature and contacted AT&T for more details. At that time details were sketchy at best but the general gist was, you would need to be running the new operating system (iOS4) on either the new iPhone 4 or iPhone 3Gs and there would be an additional cost of $20 per month. AT&T Website Hack Exposes Apple iPad 3G Users Email Addresses

AT&T LogoJune 10, 2010 – Gawker.com reported, a vulnerability in AT&T’s web server security enabled hackers to gain access to over 114,000 Apple iPad 3G owners email addresses including CEOs, military officials and top politicians.

The 3G iPads use a SIM chip located inside the device to connect to AT&T’s wireless network. Each SIM chip has a unique identifier know as the ICC ID. The hackers were able to obtain some of these IDs from embedded information in pictures posted on Flickr and other internet sites and through friendly associates who own iPads and were willing to share their ID information. Why Did AT&T Change Their iPhone and iPad Data Plans?

AT&T LogoJune 9, 2010 – If you’re an iPhone or iPad owner you may have already heard that AT&T is changing their data plans. There will no longer be an “unlimited data plan” available for new customers on either device. Existing customers are grandfathered in making it possible to keep your unlimited plan, but certain requirements apply. See my articles “AT&T Changes Data Plan for iPhone and Smartphone Users” and “AT&T Changes the iPad 3G Data Plans” for more details.

On Monday June 7, 2010 Apple CEO Steve Jobs gave the keynote address at their World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco and announced the new iPhone 4. This beautiful piece of hardware will be shipping at the end of June and will include the new iPhone operating system know as iOS4. The new operating system offers many new customer requested features like multitasking, background audio, VoIP capabilities, background location, push notifications and task completion notifications. All of these features plus many, many more will greatly enhance the user experience and make the iPhone more like a computer than a SmartPhone. Read More→

AT&T Changes the iPad 3G Data Plans

AT&T LogoJune 8, 2010 – Apple’s iPad has turned out to be a huge success. They sold 1 million iPads in just 28 days and hit the 2 million mark in less than 60 days. Apple began shipping the iPads internationally on May 28th and they’ve proven to be a huge hit over seas as well. Within the first month of launch the only model available was the iPad with Wi-Fi. Many people held out for the iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G for the ability to connect to the internet whenever and wherever they wanted using the AT&T mobile network.

When Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs first announced the iPad back in January of 2010, I like many were very excited to get my hands on this device. I purchased the 16 GB Wi-Fi only model and received it on April 3rd. I wanted the 3G but just couldn’t wait, I figured maybe I would just buy the 3G model later on and give the Wi-Fi to my wife. Well now I’m not so sure I would buy the 3G model at all! The powers that be at AT&T decided to change the data plans for the iPad and no longer offer an Unlimited Data Plan option. Read More→
