Apple Releases Statement on App Store Review Guidelines

Apple Logo–

Sept 13, 2010 – This isn’t really photography related but I thought it was interesting. Since so many of you use iPhones and download apps from the iTunes store I thought you might too. Here is a segment form the Press Release…

–

We are continually trying to make the App Store even better. We have listened to our developers and taken much of their feedback to heart. Based on their input, today we are making some important changes to our iOS Developer Program license in sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2 and 3.3.9 to relax some restrictions we put in place earlier this year.

In particular, we are relaxing all restrictions on the development tools used to create iOS apps, as long as the resulting apps do not download any code. This should give developers the flexibility they want, while preserving the security we need.

In addition, for the first time we are publishing the App Store Review Guidelines to help developers understand how we review submitted apps. We hope it will make us more transparent and help our developers create even more successful apps for the App Store.

This may free Adobe Flash users up to create iOS apps in Flash CS5 and submit them to the iTunes store. If you’re a Flash developer or have knowledge in this area I’d love to hear more about it. Please share you thoughts in the comments below.

Update Sept 15, 2010 – In response to Apple’s announcement Adobe released the following statement:

Apple’s recent announcement that it has lifted restrictions on its third-party developer guidelines has direct implications for the Packager for iPhone. The feature is available for developers to use today and we will now resume development work on this feature for future releases. This is great news for developers and we’re hearing from our developer community that new AIR applications for iOS devices are already being approved for the Apple App Store. We do want to point out that Apple’s restriction on Flash content running in the browser on iOS devices remains in place.

Over 300,000 iPads Sold in the First Day

Apple LogoApril 5, 2010 – Apple today announced that it sold over 300,000 iPads in the US as of midnight Saturday, April 3. The sales include deliveries of pre-ordered iPads, deliveries to partners and sales at the Apple Retail Stores. Apple also announced that iPad users downloaded over one million apps from Apple’s App Store and over 250,000 ebooks from its new iBookstore during the first day. These are impressive numbers after only one day. I know there are a lot of people that waited or pre-ordered the 3G model iPad so I’m sure those numbers will sky rocket by the end of the month.
