Canon Announces the EOS Rebel T2i

Feb 14, 2010 – Canons announced the new EOS Rebel T2i. Today’s photo enthusiasts are looking for a camera that will grow with them as they learn. The Rebel T2i has a feature set that bridges the gap between an entry-level and pro-sumer DSLR making this camera a perfect choice.

Features include an 18MP CMOS sensor, ISO range from 100-6400 expandable to 12,800, 3.7 frames per second continuous shooting, 63-zone dual-layer metering system, and selectable image processing features. The 3” LCD with wide 3:2 aspect ratio is larger than past EOS models and makes it possible to display a full-screen video image. For maximum storage capacity, the T2i is the first EOS model to support SDXC memory cards.

Canon has been a leader in DSLR videography, and the T2i continues that tradition capturing Full HD 1920×1080 video with selectable frame rates of 30, 25 or 24 fps. You can also choose to shoot in HD 720 or standard definition 640×480 at 60 or 50 fps. The new Auto ISO function works in all Creative Zone exposure modes including Manual where users can set a limit to the highest ISO the camera will use, enabling them to retain dark shadow areas and avoid blowing out highlight areas in a scene while still retaining the benefit of automatic ISO adjustments.

Another feature debuting in the Rebel T2i is Canon’s new Movie Crop mode, where the user can achieve 7x magnification when shooting SD video for a significantly increased “telephoto” effect. Unlike the digital zoom feature found in many point-and-shoot cameras, the Movie Crop mode actually crops the image directly from the CMOS sensor at full SD resolution to preserve maximum image quality and provide additional zoom power. Three New Lenses From Canon, One Featuring Hybrid Image Stabilization

CANON-LOGOCANON-LENS-GROUPSep 13, 2009 – Canon introduced three new lenses last week. The EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens is a great multipurpose lens for capturing sharp close-up images of small objects as well as beautiful portrait-length telephoto shots. This lens incorporates Canon’s new Hybrid IS which compensates for both angular camera shake and shift camera shake, problems that become more apparent as magnification increases. Shift camera shake is rarely noticeable when shooting outside the macro realm, such as landscape photography. But when shooting extreme close-ups, even the slightest amount of angular or shift camera shake can adversely affect image quality. The Hybrid IS lens includes an acceleration sensor in addition to the conventional angular velocity sensor, and together work to compensate for the two types of shift giving a much sharper image. This lens will be available at the end of September for an estimated price of $1,049.

The second Canon lens introduced is the  EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM. This is an ideal multipurpose wide-angle zoom lens for the photographer shooting a wedding or exotic vacation. The zoom range is equivalent to 24-136mm on a full-frame camera and when coupled with the new 7D, provides videographers with a phenomenal focal range for wide-angle scenic footage and zoomed in telephoto shots. Canon has scheduled this lens to be available in late October for an estimated price of $799.99.

The third lens is the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS. This is the perfect Image Stabilized lens for the advanced shooter looking for a wide-angle zoom lens with telephoto capabilities. On a full-frame camera this lens is equivalent to 29-216mm. Look for this lens at the end of September for an estimated price of $499.99.

Canon's New Mid-Range EOS 7D DSLR

CANON-LOGOCanon 7DSep 12, 2009 – Canon introduced their new mid-range EOS 7D DSLR. With all new features never seen before in any Canon camera, the 7D is far more than a slight improvement over a previous model. Sporting a large 18MP APS-C sized CMOS sensor and Dual DIGIC 4 Imaging Processors, the 7D is capable of shooting eight frames per second for up to 126 Large JPEGS using a UMDA Compact Flash card, making this camera a great choice for the studio or the sidelines.

The 7D has a completely new 19-point multi-axis cross-type Autofocus system with Canon’s new Intelligent Viewfinder. That combined with it’s wide range of ISO settings from 100-6400, expandable to 12,800, makes this camera perfect for fast-moving sports action or low-light wedding ceremonies.

As with most new cameras coming out, the 7D has movie recording capabilities. Choose from Full HD at 1920 x 1080 pixels in selectable frame rates of  24p for that cinematic look, 25p or 30p. HD mode records 720p with a 50p or 60p frame rate and SD at 50p or 60p. The 7D has a dedicated button to initiate live view for both video and still shooting. Once engaged, the same button will start and stop video recording. As with the 5D Mark II, the 7D has an external stereo microphone jack for professional audio and a build in monaural mic for convenience. With it’s manual exposure control and compatibility with more than 60 Canon EF and EF-S lenses, the EOS 7D lets videographers achieve the dramatic look they desire.

As if all of these features weren’t enough, Canon added even more coolness to the 7D! The dual Axis Electronic Level that appears over the 3” rear LCD screen is perfect for architectural and landscape photography where angles and perspective is critical. The pop-up flash features a built-in Integrated Speedlite Transmitter for control of multiple off-camera EOS Speedlites without the need for an external transmitter. The new Intelligent Macro Tracking function helps reduce blur during macro shooting by recognizing when a macro lens is attached and automatically adjusting.

The new WFT-E5A wireless file transmitter offers professional photographers a wide range of digital connectivity options including IEEE802.11a/b/g and Ethernet, ideal for commercial and studio work. Photographers can fire up to 10 cameras simultaneously from across the room or across the country while maintaining control over camera settings and remote live view on a laptop or smart phone. Geotagging is now possible via Bluetooth, using compatible GPS devices to append coordinate data to the images.

The 7D will be available at the end of September in a body-only configuration for an estimated price of $1699 and a kit version with Canon’s EF 28-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS USM zoom lens for an estimated price of $1899. The Canon WFT-E5A wireless file transmitter will be available early November for an estimated price of $699.99. Read More→
